East Valley Bus Administration Facility
East Valley Bus Administration Facility
Tempe, Arizona
The City of Tempe, City of Scottsdale, and Valley Metro have collaborated to create a sustainable bus operations and maintenance facility using an integrated design process with broad scale sustainable design principles. The project includes 75,600 sq. ft. of maintenance building, 7,100 sq. ft. of fuel and wash space, and a separate 19,650 sq. ft. administration operations building. By setting goals ahead of time and tracking progress towards sustainability targets throughout design and construction, the project team was able to achieve a LEED Gold certification for both the maintenance building and the administration building as separately submitted projects under the LEED for New Construction v2.1 Rating System.
Sustainable Strategies
-
Bicycle parking stalls, showers, and changing rooms are provided for the building occupants to encourage alternative transportation
-
Potable water use is reduced through the installation of low-flow lavatories, dual-flush water closets, and waterless urinals
-
An upgraded thermal envelope, reduced lighting power density, occupancy sensors, daylighting controls, evaporative pre-cooling, and an underfloor air system improve energy efficiency
-
Majority of wood based building materials used are certified in accordance with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Principles and Criteria
-
Carbon Dioxide monitoring ensures proper ventilation to promote occupant comfort and wellbeing
