May 23, 2005 - NAIOP to reward developers that go green
The National Association of Industrial and Office Properties said it is recognizing environmentally friendly development and is to give its first awards for such work in a South Florida ceremony.

The organization, which has a South Florida chapter, said it is launching a Green Development Award to recognize outstanding achievement in the field. NAIOP works to represent the interests of commercial real estate executives engaged in industrial, office and mixed-use development.

The group said it consulting with the U.S. Green Building Council, a national coalition of building industry executives working to promote environmentally responsible building and Development, to develop the new award. Winners, NAIOP said, will show green development innovation, efficiency and quality.

To be considered for the award, applicants are to be judged on criteria including sustainable sites, indoor environmental quality, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, economic viability and other sustainable attributes, the organization added.

The recipient of the award is to be announced in late August 2005 and honored at NAIOP's annual conference, Oct. 19-21, in Hollywood.
