Hayden Facility
General Dynamics Hayden Facility
Scottsdale, Arizona
The Hayden Facility is one of the first projects to be registered for certification under the LEED EB Operations & Maintenance 2008 Rating System program. It’s an ambitious undertaking for reasons of both its size and age; the Hayden Facility is 850,000 square feet in a building originally constructed in the 1950s, and it constitutes roughly half of the overall Scottsdale site complex. This effort follows the successful certification in 2005 of the other half, the Roosevelt Facility, under the LEED EB pilot program. Green Ideas developed a new process to benchmark complicated industrial facilities for energy performance: the process is now included in the LEED-EB Reference Guide. A $210,000 investment in LEED-EB resulted in a savings of $432,000. Energy construction was shown to be reduced by 10% versus an industrial average with over 20% water savings.
