Green Associate Exam Preparation (tier 1)

This seminar outlines the basic knowledge of LEED and sustainability necessary to pass the Green Associate exam. As the first step in the LEED professional’s career pathway, the Green Associate credential attests to the candidate’s knowledge of good environmental practice and skill, and reflects understanding and support of green design, construction, and operations. This credential applies to all LEED systems and you must pass this exam in order to be eligible to pursue a specialty in the AP credential. Major topics covered in the seminar include: the key components of the LEED Rating Systems and the intents and associated concepts of each LEED credit category, the LEED certification process and successful LEED strategies and measurements for achieving credit category goals.

LEED AP Exam Preparation Seminars (tier 2)

O&M / BD+C / ID+C / HOMES

The LEED AP credential signifies an advanced depth of knowledge in green building practices and reflects a particular specialization in a LEED Rating System. The instructor guides participants through the use of the LEED project checklist, reviews case studies of different project types from around the country and provides a detailed analysis of application and implementation of the LEED rating system.

V3 Rating Systems – What You Need to Know

We are in a period of tremendous growth and evolution in the green building industry and recently the USGBC and GBCI announced changes and upgrades to LEED, taking advantage of new technologies and advancements in building science while prioritizing energy efficiency and CO2 emissions reductions. This seminar will address these advancements in the various LEED Rating Systems, the changes to LEED Online and the new certification model.

Managing the LEED Documentation & Certification Process

This seminar is for professionals who want to build on their existing knowledge of LEED with in-depth instruction on LEED documentation and certification. Utilizing examples and discussion, the instructor will show you how to effectively manage the documentation process and project team from Charrette to certification. We will review common mistakes, what documents to select and how to format them and how information is uploaded in to LEED Online.

Integrative Approach to Successful LEED Projects

Designed for all building professionals who want to understand how an integrative approach on projects will neutralize first costs, improve building performance and reduce operations impacts. The seminar includes a mock Charrette exercise and insights into this important aspect of green building best practices. You will learn how to implement the collaborative approach necessary to create realistic and achievable design and construction ideas that work. Prior knowledge of LEED Rating Systems is highly suggested.

ROI Seminars

Project Costs and Returns

This seminar is designed to help those who are – or will be - working on a LEED project team learn how to handle the costs issues to build more environmentally and economically sound projects. Information on construction and life-cycle costs are introduced utilizing LEED certified project case studies and current market research.

Greater Profits through High Performance Buildings

This business-focused seminar is designed to teach attendees the value of Green Building for their organizations. The seminar will focus on illustrating how the “triple bottom line” approach to building design, construction and operations can help building owners combine economics, ethics and environmental issues into a winning strategy for profitability.

LEED for General Contractors / Construction Managers

This program will help general contractors and construction managers understand LEED as it relates to their project role, with a focus on technical requirements (particularly materials, resources and indoor environmental quality credits). The seminar includes strategies for general contractor and subcontractor documentation and cost tracking.

Material Strategies that Work for LEED Projects

Understanding the materials and resources credits in the LEED Rating Systems is critical to implementing a successful materials strategy. This seminar will help attendees understanding how products contribute to points in terms of materials value, important product considerations, including cost and compliance with LEED, the tools and techniques to simplify documentation and save time as well as best practices for implementing a construction waste management plan.

Construction Indoor Air Quality Management for LEED Projects

Understanding the indoor environmental quality credits in the LEED Rating Systems is critical to implementing a construction IAQ management plan. This seminar will help the attendee better understand the subcontractor requirements, product compliance and critical product information and certifications

Elements of a Successful Environmental Management System (EMS)

This seminar is designed to help you understand the role and components of a good EMS plan, including the need for an adjacent communications program. Implementation strategies will be explored in addition to how to benchmark jobsite activities, create reports, and comply with federal and local regulations with a focus on reducing and eliminating fines for non-compliance. We will also cover the necessary tools to efficiently supply clients with a comprehensive list of project-specific environmental accomplishments and EMS performance data.

Language of LEED for Business Development & Marketing Professionals

This seminar is a brief overview of the LEED rating systems for business development and marketing professionals who need to be able to discuss LEED intelligently with customers but do not require an intimate knowledge of the rating systems. This presentation will specifically address common mistakes and give the attendee the confidence to promote their products for LEED applications.

Understanding Greenwashing

When making claims it is critical that manufacturers are certain how a product performs environmentally. Unfortunately marketing and sales teams are often not equipped with credible or accurate information - the end result is “Greenwashing” whether intentional or not. Today with increasing environmental regulations and the growth of rating systems such as LEED and Energy Star, Greenwashing can affect more than a manufacturer’s credibility. Join us for a brief overview on how to avoid Greenwashing and maintain the integrity of your environmental claims.

LEED for Product Manufacturers

Many manufacturers understand the basic environmental attributes sustainable design professionals are looking for, such as “recycled content”. Yet the specifics of what constitutes “recycled content”, for example and how it is quantified in the LEED rating systems can be elusive. This seminar will clarify this and many similar issues surrounding LEED, and participants will leave with a framework for developing, documenting and marketing products that contribute to or comply with LEED goals.

LEED for Schools Technical Review

This seminar provides architects, engineers, consultants, contractors and other design professionals with a complete review of the LEED for Schools Rating System and how to apply it on K-12 schools projects. Topics addresses include tools and insights needed to incorporate green building practices into your work, including case studies of certified school projects illustrating successful strategies and practices for improving design and performance.

LEED for Retail Technical Review

This seminar provides architects, engineers, consultants, contractors and other design professionals with a technical review of the LEED for Retail Rating System. The course will address the specific needs of multiple kinds of retail spaces. Topics include occupancy types, process loads, waste profiles, controllability, comfort issues and lighting and metrics in a retail environment.

LEED for Healthcare Technical Review

This program is for professionals who own, design, build, operate and maintain healthcare facilities and are interested in applying LEED concepts to their building projects. Topics covered include tools and insights needed to incorporate green building practices into your health care project. Included are integrated design, health-based considerations for materials and methods and successful strategies and practices for energy and water efficiency and the prerequisites for designing a high performance, healing environment.

LEED for Core and Shell Technical Review

This seminar is for designers, builder, developers and new building owners in implementing sustainable design for new core and shell construction. This system applies when developers have full control of the entire core and shell base, , but no control over the design and construction of the tenant fit-out; have partial control of the building systems; design and construct a building where 50% or less of the leasable space is occupied by the owner

LEED Application Workshops

These category-specific workshops will engage attendee’s participation in actual design, implementation and documentation examples and will thoroughly prepare attendees to take charge as a knowledgeable participant in an actual LEED project.
