Chaparral Business Center Phase V

Chaparral Business Center Phase V

Scottsdale, Arizona

Chaparral V is a class-A single story, 70,000 SF office building and the fifth phase of the Chaparral Business Center. This project is the first sustainable building for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community; a community dedicated to sustainability, the earth, and future generations. The project was designed to conform to the character of the first four phases of development. The building has a major tenant entry at each of the four corners comprised of a painted steel trellis and gray-weathered specialty sheet metal panels. Each of the individual windows facing east, south and west are protected by painted a suspended steel shade trellis with a masonry column at one end. All the windows are further protected by a matching pattern of trees to provide shading. These were a part of the total xeriscaped landscape package now installed and maintained on the property.

Sustainable Strategies

  • Entry track-off carpeting integrates well with interior materials

  • A highly reflective roof system has been utilized to reduce the facility’s contribution to the urban heat island

  • To reduce the consumption of potable water the Chaparral Business Park has been designed with waterless urinals, dual-flush water closets, and other low-flow plumbing fixtures

  • Materials were selected that were high in recycled content and also regionally extracted and manufactured

  • Low-emitting adhesives, paints, sealants, carpet systems, and composite wood products were all used in interior spaces

Project Results

  • LEED for New Construction CERTIFIED level achieved

  • 59% savings of potable water use for irrigation

  • 46% savings of potable water for domestic uses

  • 79% of construction materials diverted from the landfill

  • 21% of total materials used contain recycled content
