This 2,900 SF 3-story home served as a Pilot project for the LEED for Homes program and is a prototype for affordable green housing in Paterson, NJ displaying over 80 sustainable strategies. The building envelope is very unique, including three insulating foam technologies to improve the home’s energy performance as well as spotlight innovative building products. Insulating Concrete Forms were used for the basement walls and the first level of the home providing a solid, poured-in-place concrete foundation and meet the high-performance insulating qualities required for the area. Structural insulated panels were used on the second floor. These consist of rigid expanded polystyrene sandwiched between two sheets of oriented strand board made from recycled wood products. This strategy reduced construction time with quick, easy installation.
